Proposed Plan for
Path and Creek Restoration

Between the Park Area and Downstream to Dry Gluch Creek

It has come to the board's attention that the paths adjacent to both Dry Gulch and Bolin Creek are experiencing lots of erosion. In February 2008 Steve Campbell and Jim Neill meet with Randy Dodd, Carrboro's Environmental Engineer, down at the creek and walked all of the paths in Phase II.

Rob had lots of ideas and was delighted that we were concerned about the quality of the creek and its banks.  He indicated that Carrboro had no requirements about the distance a path is from the creek bank but thought it would be a good idea to think about moving the paths to limit erosion.

Betty Rintoul and Hope Wyss and Jim Neill repeated the walk in March so that they could see first hand the areas that Steve and Jim isolated.

   We need your input...
  - Do we want to address this issue?
  - Let nature "do its thing"?
  - Move the paths away from the creeks to let the banks naturalize?
  - If we make a plan to address the erosion how much can we reasonably take on?
- If you think this project should be taken on, would you be willing to commit to helping?

Join us for a walk of the creek April 11, 2008 at 6:00 PM and join us for pizza and drinks afterward.   If you can't join us then we still would welcome your input.  Please contact any board memeber to share your ideas.

The board suggests that "IF" we were to take this on, a first step would be to spend the May Workday moving the path away from Bolin Creek between the playground and Dry Gulch Creek.   In addition we would close the path on Dry Gulch and direct traffic to the Adams Tract.

Below is a plat with clickable links to the photos of the area.

Links 1 thru 4 are of the erosion and number 5 is of the crest, in from the bank about 15 feet.

Please let us hear from you!!!
